The very first Docker meetup in Montreal was hosted in our Wajam offices back in March thanks to one of our helpful sysadmins who stepped up as a co-organizer.
There was a huge turnout for the event, showing how popular Docker has grown in a very short amount of time. For those of you not familiar with the tool, Docker allows you to package an application with all of its dependencies into one standardized unit for software development. This makes it so your application runs the same way every time, regardless of the environment it’s being run in.
The main talk was delivered by Henri Bouvier from OMsignal as he detailed how they used Docker with their wearable tech. In the second half he went over the lessons learned while implementing Docker since the very start of their project.
While almost all of the attendees had heard of Docker, about half of them had never used it before. The turn out was unprecedented. As usual we brought in pizza for our guests and opened up our beer fridge to all attendees. But there was no way we could be prepared for the packed house that we got! The turn out was so large that the Docker Meet-up group had to upgrade all following events to a larger location.
Keep an eye on the Docker Montreal Meetup page for future events.
